42 vehicles wasting away in 3 STF camps!

 

An audit report has revealed that 42 vehicles purchased since 2017 have remained unused at 03 Special Task Force camps.

The vehicles had been purchased supposedly for the duties of the United Nations Peacekeeping Project.

The report also states that Rs. 178 crores have been spent in five years to buy the aforementioned vehicles as well as other goods and equipment.

According to the audit report, the said vehicles and machinery are currently at the STF training school in Katukurunda as well as the STF camps in Horana and Gonahena.

Eye disease spreading in Colombo schools

The health department of the Colombo Municipal Council said that all classes of Grades 6 – 8 in the Kotahena Central College have been closed until Friday due to an eye disease being spread among the students.

The Colombo Municipal Council said that the disease is spreading in schools in the areas of Colombo West, Colombo Central, Colombo North and Borella falling under the CMC limits.

Medical experts urge public to seek treatment if symptoms last for more than 5 days.

Teen hospitalised after kicking ‘Hakka Patas’

A 15-year-old school student residing in Aladeniya, Kandy has been seriously injured  after kicking a ‘Hakka Patas’ (a ball shaped locally improvised explosive).

The teen had been returning home from school when he had seen a ball-like object beside the road and kicked it.

He had sustained grievous injuries to his leg.

Subsequently, police had initiated a search operation in the area and arrested two suspects with 9 such explosives.

The suspects are aged 25 and 27 years. It has now been revealed that one of them is an army deserter.
