Over 2 million tourist arrivals in 2024: Income revealed
Sri Lanka recorded the highest monthly tourist arrivals for 2024 in December, with 248,592 visitors.For the year, a total of 2,053,465 tourist arrivals were reported, reflecting a 38% increase compared to 2023.
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) reported tourism earnings of USD 3,168.6 million, a significant 53.2% increase from the previous year.With this surge in arrivals, 2024 figures came close to pre-pandemic and pre-Easter attack levels, when 2.3 million tourists were recorded in 2018.
Tourist arrivals continue to trend upward in 2025, with 70,944 visitors recorded in the first nine days of January.
