Heart attack risk increased in SL Cardiologist Gotabhaya Ranasinghe
Twenty percent of the people in the country are at risk of getting heart attacks as a result of economic strain related stress, Dr. Gotabhaya Ranasinghe, a cardiologist at the Colombo National Hospital, said.
He says that this figure has increased to 30% in the Western Province.He added that the increase in stress has led to an increase in non-communicable diseases, including high blood pressure and high blood sugar, and the emergence of new non-communicable diseases.
Indigenous and Western medical professionals have also pointed out that there is an increased number of heart attack patients in every province of Sri Lanka.They state that a scientific study should be done on this to investigate the causes and prevent people from dying in this manner.
