INTERIM HEAD COACH SANATH JAYASURIYA

Jayasuriya appointed interim head coach until England series

Media reports have confirmed that Sanath Jayasuriya, former captain and chairman of the main selection committee, has been appointed as the interim head coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team until the England tournament.

This decision follows the resignations of head coach Chris Silverwood and part-time coach Mahela Jayawardene after Sri Lanka’s disappointing T20 World Cup campaign in the USA and West Indies. Under Wanindu Hasaranga’s leadership, the team failed to progress to the Super 8 round.

Jayasuriya, widely regarded as an all-time great in the sport, previously served as a full-time coach for the national team.

Under Jayasuriya’s leadership, Sri Lanka’s immediate focus is on a white-ball home series against India, the newly crowned T20 World Cup champions. India’s tour of Sri Lanka will feature three ODIs and three T20Is.

Gautam Gambhir is set to take over as India’s new coach starting from the Sri Lanka series. With stalwarts like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retiring from T20Is, there is anticipation of new players making their way into India’s T20 squad. Conversely, a strong squad is expected for the ODIs.
