ITAK MEMBER KUGATHASAN SWORN IN FOR VACANCY OF DECEASED SAMPANTHAN

Shanmugam Kugathasan sworn in as MP

Mr. Kathiravelu Shanmugam Kugathasan was sworn in as a member of the 9th Parliament before the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana today (July 09)

Following the Oath affirmation before the Speaker, Kugathasan signed the Member Roll kept before the Secretary General of the Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera.

Kathiravelu Shanmugam Kugathasan was appointed to fill the vacancy created due to the demise of Rajavarothiam Sampanthan, a former leader of the opposition in the Parliament of Sri Lanka and leader of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK).

Shanmugam Kugathasan completed his higher education from the University of Colombo and Madurai Kamaraj University, India.

He has been a member of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi Party since 1975 and has been working as the Trincomalee District Leader of the party since 2018. He has also worked as the Eastern Province Development Affairs Coordinator under the Ministry of National Policy, Economic Affairs and Resettlement.

Furthermore, in the previous parliamentary election, he represented the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi and participated in the election representing the Trincomalee district.

The Election Commission published the gazette notification No. 2391/14 regarding the appointment of Kathiravelu Shanmugam Kugathasan on July 02.
