Jaffna Kings win 2021 LPL ( Back to Back having won the first edition of the LPL in year 2020)
The Jaffna Kings emerged as back-to-back Champions after defeating the Galle Gladiators by 23 runs at a nail biting final of the 2021 LPL held at the Suriyawewa stadium today (23).
Batting first,after a bold decision by Skipper Thissara Perera to bat first not usually happen in a T 20 final, the Jaffna Kings set a score of 201/3 (.Avishka Fernando 63 41b 8×4 2×6,Rahnanaullah Gurbar 35 18 b 3×4 3×6, Tom Kohler Cadmore 57 41 b 2×4 3×6 Thissara Perera 17 9b 1×4 2×6 Mohamed Amir,Nuwan Thushara and Samit Patel capturing one wicket apiece Chasing a target of 202, the Galle Gladiators were initially having been ahead of their opponents with a blistering opening stand of 63 in 26 balls between Kusal Mendis 39 28 b 3×4 1×6, Dhanushka Gunatilleke 54 21 b 7×4 3×6 Bhanuka Rajapaksa 14 16 b 2×4,Samit Patel 22 20 b 1×6,Wanindu Hasaranga 2 for 30 and Chaturanga de Silva 2 for 15 .The Galle Gladiators were able to amass only 178/9 in their allotted 20 overs.Avishka Fernando was again Adjudicated as the “man of the Match”.
