Smugglers sell kidneys to foreigners!

 

The Attorney General’s Department informed the court yesterday (17) that smugglers in Sri Lanka have earned exorbitant amounts of money by selling kidneys to foreigners.

Senior Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris informed the court that during the extensive investigation conducted into the alleged kidney trafficking that took place at the Western Hospital in Borella, it was revealed that a kidney had been sold to an UAE citizen.

SDSG Peiris expressed these views when the case in connection with the kidney trafficking was taken up before Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajeendra Jayasuriya.The Additional Magistrate ordered that two army officers and a broker who were arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division in connection with the kidney trafficking be remanded until the 31st.

LG polls could be postponed if Election Expenditure Bill is passed!

Executive Director of the People’s Action for Free & Fair Elections (PAFFREL) – Rohana Hettiarachchi says that if the Regulation of Election Expenditure Bill is passed tomorrow (19), if it is applied for the upcoming LG polls, there is a possibility of the election being postponed.

Speaking to ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’, he said that there is no specific time period mentioned to apply the Bill.

The Committee on Parliamentary Business decided to take into debate the Regulation of Election Expenditure Bill tomorrow (19).

The Secretary General of Parliament Mr. Dhammika Dasanayake stated that the Committee on Parliamentary Business held today (18), which was chaired by the Speaker Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana decided to take into debate the Regulation of Election Expenditure Bill tomorrow.

Accordingly, the Secretary General said that the debate will be held tomorrow from 10.30 am to 5.00 pm.

It was decided to take the final decision regarding the stated today, at the previous Committee on Parliamentary Business held.

Kotahena shooting : Target was Kimbula Ele Guna’s relative

Sri Lanka Police said the target of Wednesday (18) afternoon shooting down 6th Lane in Kotahena was a relative of wanted underworld gangster ‘Kimbula Ele Guna’.

Two armed on a motorcycle fired several shots at a person inside a car that was parked down 6th Lane in Kotahena at around 1:30 on Wednesday (18) afternoon.

CCTV cameras captured the incident, and the car fleeing the hail of bullets.

A 30-year-old man identified as Raveendran Deepan, a resident of Jinananda Mawatha Kotahena, was injured in the shooting.

The man who is also known as Dileepan is a relative of wanted underworld gangster Sinniah Gunasekara commonly known as Kimbula Ele Guna.

Sinniah Gunasekara commonly known as Kimbula Ele Guna is currently detained by the Indian National Intelligence Agency in Tamil Nadu.

Kimbula Ele Guna’s relative who was injured in the shooting in Kotahena was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment.

Thereafter, according to a spokesperson from the National Hospital, Dileepan’s relatives had beaten up a man who made inquiries about the injured man.

This man too was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital accident ward for treatment.

An individual identified as Sajith Ranga aka Mabima Ranga was killed when two men on a motorcycle opened fire at him close to the Kalu Palama in Peliyagoda on Tuesday (17) morning

On the 15th of January, a 36-year-old man was gunned down by motorcycle gunmen in the Kumbuka area located along the Piliyandala – Horana Road.

On the 11th of January, a similar homicide was reported from Panamura.

On the 31st of May 2022, two men were targetted by motorcycle gunmen in Fort, Colombo and since then over 50 people have been gunned down in Sri Lanka.
