“LACK OF EFFECTIVE RESOLUTION FOR THE CONCERNS” THE STATION MASTERS OPTS TO STRIKE

Possible train delays as station masters go on strike

Railways Station Masters’ Union (RSMU) has warned of possible train delays as they are resorting to a trade union action.

Speaking to the media yesterday (13), President of the RSMU – Sumedha Somarathne has said that trains would not be given speed limit orders during the trade union action.

The RSMU TU action commenced at midnight yesterday.

“Because of the lack of effective resolution of the concerns, we were forced to take relevant union action. The issues include implementing a safe train signal system, failure to implement a programme to protect the lives of passengers in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and problems related to transfers, recruitment and promotion of station masters,” Mr. Somarathne had said.

Moreover, he said the union earlier had decided to refrain from all their services from December 26 due to their failure to provide solutions to their demands.

The union had also decided to boycott the discussion requested by the railway management yesterday.
