Rains to intensify : Landslide warnings for 3 districts
The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for heavy showers over 100mm valid for the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
Prevailing showery conditions over the South Western parts of the island, are expected to enhance due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka during today and tomorrow (17), it said.
The general public is therefore kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers
Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) today (Aug. 16) issued early warnings for landslides in the Kalutara, Matara, and Galle districts.
Those in these areas are advised to be watchful for signs of landslides such as sudden appearance of water sprouts, cracks on walls and on the soil.
