LEGAL REDRESS FOR OFFICIALS BEHIND CORRUPT LENS DEAL

Officials behind corrupt lens deal to face legal redress?

President of the Medical and Civil Rights Professionals Association – Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa says that legal redress will be sought against authorities responsible for the stock of imported cataract lenses that deviate from the required specifications.

He said this responding to a journalist at a media briefing held at the N.M. Perera Centre today (March 07).

Noting that it was mandatory for the technical evaluation committee of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) to quality check the lenses, Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa said that if the country had actually received a stock of substandard lenses, every official of the technical evaluation committee who had allowed the importation, should definitely be brought before the law.

The chairman further pointed out that the Ministry of Health should issue an official certificate stating that this stock is faulty and that legal redress can be sought accordingly.

However, it was previously reported that after initially refusing to accept the stock, two health officials had attempted to pressurize the Medical Supplies Division (MSD) to accept this faulty stock which had been imported by P.T.C Holdings (Private) Limited.
