Two more committees in parliament
Two more committees similar to the COPE and COPA committees are to be established in Parliament, reports say.
According to parliament sources, government bigwigs have already agreed to give the chairman posts to the opposition.
The purpose of establishing these two committees is to review the issues related to the country’s economic situation and propose solutions.
The chairmanship of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts (COPA Committee) was recently given to Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Kabir Hashim.It is now well known that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has phoned the Chief Government Whip – Prasanna Ranatunga and told him to tell parliament that the government agrees to give the COPA chairmanship to Kabir Hashim.
Opposition MPs Lakshman Kiriella as well as Harsha de Silva had repeatedly called in the Parliament to appoint opposition MPs as chairmen of Finance related committees.
