Fin Min to present list of tax evaders to Parliament
The Finance Ministry has decided to submit a complete report on the tax frauds revealed in Parliament to the House within three weeks.
This report is to be prepared after a special discussion to be held today (26) among the heads of all institutions including the Inland Revenue Department, Sri Lanka Customs and the Excise Department.
MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage said in Parliament that there are 59,000 income taxpayers in the country and about only 80 people pay more than Rs.10 million.
It was also revealed in Parliament that 28,000 of taxpayers pay less than Rs.10 million.
Therefore, the MP said that the law should be implemented against tax frauds.
Meanwhile, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that a programme to increase tax revenue will be launched from the first of October.
He also said that this programme will be launched to absorb 2.5 million new taxpayers.
