MAHINDA AND RANIL FACES FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS PETITION

FR petition filed against Mahinda and Ranil

Dr. Mahim Mendis and 3 others filed a Fundamental Rights Petition at the Supreme Court today (04), stating that the Government has violated the Fundamental Rights of its citizens.

The petitioners state that the economic crisis and the unbearable cost of inflation is a result of economic mismanagement and short-sighted action by the Government, which has thus violated the fundamental rights of the general public.

The petition names 39 respondents including former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa and the cabinet, current Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, former Central Bank governors Ajith Nivaard Cabraal, Dr. W.D. Lakshman and the bank’s monetary board, former permanent secretary to the president, P.B. Jayasundara, the Attorney General, Auditor General, the Bribery Commission and its 3 commissioners.
