Kandyan Marriage & Divorce Act to be revised
On Oct. 26 last year, Cabinet approval was granted to repeal Section II of the Kandyan Marriage and Divorce Act which requires parental consent for the marriage of a minor.
The Legal Draftsman has prepared a Bill for this purpose and the clearance of the Attorney General has also been received for this. Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Justice Minister – Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa to publish this in a government gazette and consequently table it in parliament for approval.
