A decision has been taken to increase the fine imposed on people who engage in various irregularities and unscrupulous acts at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), in Katunayake, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.
He said that it has been decided to increase the fine of Rs.25,000 to Rs.100,000.
The minister said that complaints have been received that several taxi drivers, brokers and other officials in and around the BIA are engaging in various unscrupulous acts.
Noting that there is a lack of politeness at the BIA when compared to many other airports, the minister further said that if necessary, the army or the special task force will be called to remove those who make threats.
