Kaya Daluwatte brings glory to Sri Lanka with Nepal Golf triumph

Kaya Daluwatte, Sri Lanka’s top women’s golfer, brought great honour to her country by winning the 10th Nepal Amateur Golf Championship, concluded at the Gokarna Golf Club in Kathmandu, Nepal yesterday.

Daluwatte played impressively, finishing four under-par with five birdies and one eagle. She carded scores of 71, 71, and an impressive 68 on the final day, which secured her the title in stunning fashion in the third and final round.

In the second round, Daluwatte extended her lead to six strokes, carding another one-under 71 for a total of two-under 142. India’s Dia Cris Kumar was in second place with a total score of four-over 148, after playing four-over 76 in the second round.

During the final round, Daluwatte made birdies on the third and ninth holes, finishing the front nine without any bogeys. She added another birdie on the 15th but faced a double bogey on the 17th hole, ending the back nine at one-over 37.

Indian golfers Ananthi Vivek and Manvi Singhania tied for third place with seven-over 151. Defending champion Kashmira Shah of Nepal fell to fifth place, finishing with a score of 12-over 156 after a tough round of 12-over 84.

Shah, who was tied for second place with Kumar after the first round, struggled on the back nine. She carded a birdie on the 12th hole but faced a double bogey on the 13th, losing seven shots on the par-4 14th hole and dropping four more shots on the final three holes, including another double bogey on the 17th.

Nepal’s Sushma Sigdel and Tara Karki Chirtrakar, along with India’s Anika Vivek, also made it to the final round.

A total of 65 players from Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Bhutan competed in the 54-hole event. The championship was supported by the National Sports Council, Nepal Tourism Board, Gokarna Forest Golf Resort, and Hotel Royal Singi.
