NEW COACHING STRUCRURE FOR NATIONAL CRICKET TEAM CONFESSES SPORTS MINISTER IN PARLIAMENT

New coaching Structure
A new coaching structure will be introduced to the Sri Lankan national cricket team soon, Minister of Sports Namal Rajapaksa informed Parliament yesterday.

“I will not come out with the details on the new coaching structure but will inform about it later,” the Minister said.

We will also bring in a procedure change for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) from next year where it will be mandatory to appoint local coaches for the competing teams.

However, it is difficult to make changes as LPL is a franchised tournament. We only provide guidelines for it. Also, opportunity should be provided for the sponsors of the teams to select the coach of their choice.

The Minister came out with these remarks in response to SJB MP Hesha Vithnage, who called for the appointment of local coaches for the teams competing in the LPL tournament. Vithnage said local coaches have not been given the opportunity at the LPL.

“Only a handful of local coaches have got the opportunity of coaching teams which compete at the LPL. Even Taranga Dhammika who had played in three or four league tournaments has been deprived of coaching a local team,” the MP said.
