NEW SLRC CHAIRMAN SONALA TO JEOPARDIZE SLRC IDENTITY DROPS ENGLISH AND TAMIL IN THE OFFICIAL LOGO

Sonala jeopardizes SLRC identity ; drops Tamil, English

Measures have been taken to change the official logo of the National Television Network – Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC), from Tuesday (22), which has maintained its unique identity locally and globally for nearly four decades.

It is reported that this has been done as per a decision of the SLRC Chairman  – Sonala Gunawardena and the present Board of Directors.

However, the decision had been made after the SLRC Director General had resigned.
Mass backlash

According to the Rupavahini Act, the SLRC DG is usually required to be present to make administrative decisions, therefore it is questionable as to how the Chairman and his aides have taken the relevant decision.

In the new logo, the word ‘Rupavahini’ which had initially appeared trilingually in the original logo, had been reduced to just the Sinhala wording. The matter gets more complex as the wording in both English and Tamil is scrapped in a backdrop where Sri Lanka is being alleged of human rights abuses.
