Complaint filed over Namal Rajapaksa’s law exam
A civil society representative today (Dec.16) has lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) alleging that former minister Namal Rajapaksa received preferential treatment during a law examination 11 years ago.
The complaint was submitted by Chairman of the Citizen’s Movement Against Fraud, Corruption, and Waste – Jamuni Kamantha Thushara.
Speaking to the media afterwards, he said, “There is a witness who can testify that Namal Rajapaksa cheated on his Law College exam. Eleven years ago, a former student of the Law College attempted to report that Rajapaksa sat for the examination in a special air-conditioned room and received assistance from two lawyers to write the exam.”
Calling for a prompt CID investigation, Thushara further said, “If it is proven that Namal Rajapaksa’s law degree is fraudulent, the degree should be revoked immediately, and legal action must be taken against all officials involved.”
Meanwhile, on a X post, Namal Rajapaksa has refuted the above claims saying that it is only an attempt to tarnish his reputation and undermine the credibility of the Sri Lanka Law College.
“I am confident that the outcome of the inquiry on my so called preferential treatment during my Law exams will clear any misunderstandings, and I assure my full cooperation in the process. It is my firm belief that the truth will prevail, and the reputation of both myself and Sri Lanka Law College will be upheld,” he says.
