Deegadanthu 01 no more
‘Deegadanthu 01’, one of the largest and iconic tuskers that roamed the Kalawewa National Park, has died after being electrocuted.
The tusker had ventured near a home garden where the owner had illegally electrified the fence by tapping power from the main power line.
The Director General of Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) – Chandana Sooriyabandara said that the DWC officers are currently preparing facts presented to courts and will produce the resident in courts tomorrow.
He also added that they would take custody of the tusks after obtaining a court order.
