Generator at Norochcholai, malfunctions
One of the generators of the Norochcholai Power Plant has malfunctioned, the Ceylon Electricity Board says.
The issue was reported this morning and therefore, the national grid will lose 270MW usually generated by the unit.
Another generator of the Norochcholai Power Plant had been shut since June for maintenance.Therefore, only one generator at the plant is currently in operation.

A whale that had drifted into the shallow waters of the Ippanthivu area in the Puttalam lagoon, has been safely guided back to deeper waters this afternoon (Aug. 08).
According to the Wildlife Department, the mammal was a 30-ft long Bryde’s Whale and officials believe it had lost its way.
Officials of the Wildlife Department and NARA, assisted by the Sri Lanka Navy, had guided the animal to safety in a painstaking mission.

The Sri Lankan Scout Contingent participating in the 25th World Scout Jamboree in the Republic of Korea was safely evacuated from the Saemangeum Jamboree site today (Aug. 08), in view of typhoon Khanun that is scheduled to make landfall in the Republic of Korea late on August 09.
The contingent was relocated to the Dangkook University in Cheonan, on the outskirts of Seoul. The Sri Lankan scouts have safely reached their new accommodation and are in good health. They will continue with certain activities and programs in their new location.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Republic of Korea is closely liaising with the management of the Sri Lanka scout contingent, as well as the relevant South Korean authorities, to ensure the continued safety and welfare of all Sri Lankan scouts participating in the Jamboree.

Speaker of Parliament – Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena today (Aug. 08) endorsed the certificate on the Anti-Corruption Bill which was passed in Parliament last month.
The Anti-Corruption Bill, which was presented before the House on 06 July, was passed in parliament on 19 July with amendments.
