PAVEMENT HAWKERS TOO JOIN STRIKE CRIPPLING GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS

Strike disrupts govt. operations; pavement hawkers also support strike

The strike action by the state, semi-government and private sector unions has largely disrupted the government operations.

Accordingly, while some offices were closed today, there were others that were open but workers had not reported for work.

SLTB buses operated while private sector buses also operated normally. However, train services have been severely disrupted.

Even the pavement hawkers in Colombo Fort had pulled out of trading in support of the protest.

Around 1,000 trade unions joined the strike.
