PETITION AGAINST MAHINDA ,BASIL and OTHERS TO BE TAKEN UP ON 4th JULY

 

Petition against Mahinda and Basil to be called on 04th

A five-member bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Justices Buwaneka Aluvihare, Priyantha Jayawardena, Vijith Malalgoda and L. T. B. Dehideniya today (10), ordered the case to be called on July 4th for consideration to consider the Fundamental Rights Petition filed against a group including former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The petition was filed by Dr. Mahim Mendis and three lecturers from the Open University of Colombo.

The petitioners allege that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka had over US $ 7.6 billion in foreign reserves when the present government took control of the country.

They further allege that due to this inflation has risen to an unbearable level and providing food supplies and other essential services to the people on a daily basis has become a serious issue.

Among the 39 respondents in the case, including the Bribery Commission and its three commissioners are former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, current Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, former Central Bank Governors Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Dr. WD Lakshman and the Bank’s Monetary Board, former Secretary to the President PB Jayasundara, Attorney General and the Auditor General.
