Petition challenging changes to SLFP constitution, dismissed

The Colombo District Court today (02) dismissed a petition filed challenging the amendment to Sri Lanka Freedom Party constitution.

The petition was filed by a party Ex-Co member named Montague Sarathchandra.

SLFP constitution to change
Meanwhile, reports say that the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has agreed on amending its party constitution to empower the Central Committee and the Party Leadership to take action against party members who act in a manner that is harming the policies and discipline of the party.

The SLFP CC had met under the leadership of Party Leader Maithripala Sirisena, at the Party Headquarters yesterday (01).

However, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahinda Amaraweera, Chamara Sampath Dissanayke, Duminda Dissanayake, Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Jagath Pushpakumara objected to the proposal.

Wrong to change party constitution for sake of children

Meanwhile, speaking in parliament, SLPP MP – Jagath Pushpakumara said that it is a grievous wrongdoing if one changes a party constitution for the sake of their children’s future.

Such errant changes done on mere whims have always rebounded on the party leaders he said.

“Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe failed to win a single MP seat after amending the party constitution. However, he became the President and we are happy about that… Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa did the same and it rebounded back. Now, Mr. Maithripala Sirisena doing the same,” he said.
