PETITION CHALLENGING ELIGIBILITY OF RW IN CONTESTING PREZ ELECTION REJECTED BY SUPREME COURT

SC rejects petition challenging RW’s eligibility to contest Prez polls

The Supreme Court has rejected a petition challenging President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s eligibility to run in the presidential election, which was based on claims of failure to appoint the Acting IGP & judges to the Supreme Court & Court of Appeal, the President’s Media Division states.

The petitioner has been ordered to pay Rs. 50,000 in court fees.

The Attorney General’s representative, Additional Solicitor General Nerin Pulle, argued that the petition contained false information and breached Article 92 of the Constitution.
