PM URGES TO RESOLVE FUEL ISSUES OF FISHING FOLKS

Resolve fishermen’s fuel issues immediately – PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe has instructed the Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda and the Minister of Petroleum Kanchana Wijesekara to take necessary measures to provide immediate relief to the problems faced by the fishermen in view of the ongoing fuel crisis.

During the parliamentary session held on Wednesday (06), parliamentarians Dilip Wedaarachchi and Mayantha Dissanayake raised the issues faced by the fishermen due to the fuel crisis, and the Prime Minister had arranged for a date to hold a discussion with the participation of all parties on the same day.This discussion was held at the Prime Minister’s Office this afternoon (08) with the participation of all parties and Petroleum Minister Kanchana Wijesekara explained the difficulties faced by the fishing community as a result of the fuel crisis.

Accordingly, Prime Minister Wickramasinghe instructed to appoint a committee headed by Ministers Douglas Devananda and Kanchana Wijesekara, and to take urgent measures to provide relief to the problems faced by the fishing community.
Parliamentarians Dilip Vedaarachchi, Nimal Lanza, Niroshan Perera, Piyal Nishantha, Sanath Nishantha and Mayantha Dissanayake were appointees as the other members of the committee. Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe noted that a representative representing the Treasury will be nominated for the committee and also instructed to appoint the secretaries and officials of the relevant ministries as members of this committee.
