Poet Ahnaf Jazeem bailed after 19 months in detention Muslim teacher and poet – Ahnaf Jazeem, who was detained for 19 months under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) was released on bail today (15).
Jazeem was arrested in May 2020 for publishing a Tamil language poetry anthology.
Taking up the case today, Puttalam High Court judge – Nayomi Wickramasinghe ordered to release him on three sureties amounting to Rs. 300,000 each. He was also ordered to appear before the TID on the first and last Sunday of every month.Also, the courts barred him from traveling overseas.
