PRESIDENT ASSURES NO ROOM FOR RACIAL POLITICS OR RELIGIOUS EXTREMISM IN FUTURE

No room for racial politics or religious extremism in Sri Lanka – President

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has emphasized that there will be no place for racial politics or religious extremism in Sri Lanka.

Addressing the inaugural session of the 10th Parliament of Sri Lanka, the President said the recent President and Parliamentary Elections showed the strong unity among the various communities of the nation.

As such, the President vowed that there would be no room for communal-based politics in Sri Lanka again and that religious extremism would not be tolerated.

“We are a nation that has severely suffered at the hands of communal violence. This country has been bathed in blood and tears. Hatred has been allowed to grow among the people. However, it is the responsibility of the Parliament to prevent the establishment of a government based on such factors,” he said.

President Dissanayake stressed that the government will not allow the creation of a government using politics based on racism or extremism in the future.
