Prices of several essential goods, reduced
Prices of several essential goods have been reduced, wholesale traders in Pettah say.
They say that there is a significant drop in prices of goods such as potatoes, dhal, sugar, onions and chillies.
Accordingly, the All Ceylon Restaurant Owners’ Association says that the price of a rice packet will be reduced by 20% – 25% from next Monday.
However, prices of fish at the Central Fish Market Complex in Peliyagoda remain high. Vendors point out that prices would come down if sufficient fuel is granted for fishermen.
Prices of vegetables at the Manning market too, are high, due to the adverse weather conditions in the central hill region and insufficient fuel supplies for vegetables to be transported.
