Egg traders call for pricing formula
The All-Island Egg Traders’ Association (AIETA) has called on the government to establish a pricing formula for eggs.
According to AIETA Secretary – Anura Marasinghe, the market price could be set at Rs. 35 as the production cost was below Rs. 25.
The issue with regard to egg pricing has not been sorted yet. Prices have increased to around Rs. 40 – Rs. 45. We urge the government to appoint a committee and introduce a pricing formula. The production cost of an egg is around Rs. 20 – Rs. 23. Farms can give eggs at Rs. 30.
