SIU probes 19 policemen with links to ‘Harak Kata’

The Police Special Investigation Unit (SIU) initiated an investigation yesterday (Dec. 03) over 19 police officers allegedly having links with leading drug trafficker and criminal – Nadun Chinthaka alias ‘Harak Kata’.
The majority of these police officers have worked in the Southern province and according to reports an ASP is also among them.
The “Aruna” newspaper reports that the investigation had commenced on the directives of Acting IGP – Deshbandu Tennakoon.
The news report further states that although investigations had previously revealed details of these police officers, no investigation had been done under the previous IGP.
According to reports, the investigation is to look into the police officers’ assets while links are to be investigated through phone call logs. It is also to be ascertained whether those involved in the rackets of Harak Kata also received police backing.
