REVEALING CAMPAIGN PLANS AKD ADDS NOT WORKING TO THE AGENDAS OF CERTAIN MEDIA

Media cannot dictate to us, AKD reveals campaign plans

National Peoples’ Power (NPP) Leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake says the party will not work according to the agendas of certain media.

Speaking to the media today, MP Dissanayake further said that these media institutions also cannot halt the party’s political campaign.

He alleged that some media institutions were spreading misinformation by making false statements about the NPP and urging provincial reporters to raise such questions from party representatives.

The NPP Leader made the statement in response to a question raised by a reporter, inquiring if rumours claiming that party member K. D. Lalkantha has requested to be appointed as Minister of Public Security were true.

“I was aware that some media institution had sent an SMS urging a reporter to question us whether the rumour about KD Lalkantha was true. We initially thought the SMS was fake. But now it has been proven to be true. This is how some media institutions behave,” he said.

Stating that it was the responsibility of all media institutions to provide equal opportunity for candidates, MP Dissanayake said, however, some media use their platform to only feature the candidates they support.

The NPP Leader alleged that some of these media also use their platforms to spread misinformation and false news about other candidates.

MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said this was an obstacle to conducting a free and fair election.

Speaking on the NPP’s election campaign, he said the policies related to the energy sector will be revealed on Thursday (Aug 15), while the policies related to the tourism sector will be revealed on Monday (Aug 26).

MP Dissanayake said the tourism sector has been identified as the key industry that could provide short-term solutions to resolve the dollar crisis in Sri Lanka.

He further announced that the NPP’s Economic Policies covering all industries in Sri Lanka will be unveiled on September 03, 2024.

MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake revealed that the NPP will officially launch its election campaign on Saturday (Aug 17).

“Three key election rallies will be held in the Tangalle, Matara, and Galle towns in the Hambantota District. It will be followed by several more rallies in various areas, including the North-East,” he said.

Stating that rallies and meetings will be held at grass-root levels as well, MP Dissanayake said the NPP’s campaign also includes house visits where discussions will be held to educate the public.

“We have already covered 50% of houses across Sri Lanka through this specific election campaign. We have also made arrangements to visit the houses at least twice as part of the election campaign,” he said.

The NPP Leader said from Thursday (Aug 15) the NPP will commence its campaigning at houses.
