Rilee Rossouw recorded the fastest century in LPL history off 44 balls, leading the Jaffna Kings to a seven-wicket win over the Colombo Strikers with nine balls to spare in their match at Dambulla International Cricket Stadium yesterday. It was a solid all-round performance by Jaffna Kings.
Chasing a target of 189, Jaffna Kings reached their mark with seven wickets in hand. South African left-hander Rossouw led the charge with an unbeaten 108 off 50 balls. His knock included 12 fours and 6 sixes. Despite early setbacks with openers Kusal Mendis (5) and Pathum Nissanka (6) departing early, Rossouw and Avishka Fernando made a remarkable 120-run third-wicket stand to secure the win. Fernando contributed 58 off 35 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Rossouw was named Man of the Match. This victory, their fourth, earned Jaffna Kings 8 points.
Skipper Thisara Perera added 13 off 9 balls, and the Colombo Strikers posted 188 for 8 in 20 overs. Omarzai and Fernando took two wickets each, while Fabian Allan bowled economically, taking 1 for 26 in his 4-over spell.
Earlier, the Colombo Strikers were invited to bat first. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Angelo Perera made a quick start with a 34-run stand in just 2.5 overs. However, Asitha Fernando made the first breakthrough, dismissing Gurbaz for 27 off 11 balls, including a four and 3 sixes. Glenn Phillips joined Angelo Perera, who retired hurt after scoring 34 off 30 balls with 3 fours and a six. Phillips continued to build the innings but was eventually dismissed by Azmatullah Omarzai for 58 off 32 balls, featuring 6 fours and 3 sixes.
