SAPUGASKANDE TO GET SIBERIAN CRUDE OIL?

Questions remain as Sapugaskanda to get Siberian crude oil

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation’s refinery at Sapugaskanda is to resume operations after receiving Russian crude oil.

Russian grade of Siberian Light will be processed at the refinery in this manner, Bloomberg reports quoting CPC Chairman – Sumith Wijesinghe.”It’s one of several grades of crude that our refinery can process, alongside Abu Dhabi’s Murban and Iranian Light oil,” he has said.

It is said that the government has procured USD 75 million (27 billion rupees) worth of Siberian crude oil from a supplier in Dubai on a new payment plan that includes a sovereign currency.

When the media had queried from Minister of Energy – Kanchana Wijesekara whether it is possible to process this grade of crude oil at Sapugaskanda, he too has stated that it is possible but the petroleum production efficiency can only be determined after operations commence.
