25,000 party members to Colombo for the SJB conference

 

The annual party conference of Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) is scheduled to be held today (Dec. 11).

General Secretary of SJB, Ranjith Madduma Bandara stated that the conference will be held at 01.00 p.m. in the Borella Campbell Park, adding that nearly 25,000 people will take part in the conference.

The leaders of many other friendly parties will also participate in the conference, he said.

Sajith unanimously re-elected as SJB leader

MP Sajith Premadasa has been unanimously re-elected as the Leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) at the party’s annual conference currently underway at Campbell Park in Borella.

Taking to the stage, SJB general secretary MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara nominated the Opposition Leader’s name for the position of party leader for the year 2023 and asked for a show of hands to second it.

Accordingly, Mr. Premadasa was unanimously re-elected as the party’s leader for the year 2023.

The party leader then proceeded to take the stage to announce the names of the party’s office bearers for next year.

MP Sarath Fonseka was re-appointed as the Chairman of the party while MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara has been chosen as the SJB’s General Secretary once again.

MP Dr. Harsha de Silva was appointed as the Treasurer of the party and MP Tissa Attanayake was re-appointed as the National Organiser.

The third annual party conference of Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) commenced at 01.00 p.m. at Campbell Park, Borella today (11) with the participation of parliamentarians and members of the alliance and leaders of many other friendly parties.

MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara said that this conference has been organized to strengthen party ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

Peradeniya’s former VC was beaten by university students!

The former Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Professor Atula Senaratne and his son were attacked by a group of students of the same university yesterday (10) at around 10 pm.

It is said that more than 300 people came to the official house in the university grounds where they live and staged a protest and attacked the house and the former vice-chancellor and his son.

The attack was caused by a car driven by the son of the former vice-chancellor who hit two motorcycles belonging to university students on the university premises and ran away.

However, Peradeniya police officers came and dispersed the students and took Vidura Senaratne into police custody.

The police say that the former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Atula Senaratne was admitted to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital and the professor’s son was also assaulted and is being treated under police protection at the Kandy National Hospital.

So far no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

CID – SLBFE officers leave for Oman to investigate human trafficking

A team consisting of officers representing the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), has left for Oman yesterday (Dec. 10) to investigate the human smuggling racket connected to Sri Lanka, the SLBFE said.
