CAA uncovers sugar mixing racket
Officials from the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) have uncovered a racket involving the mixing of locally produced red sugar with white sugar imported from India.
The mixed product was then sold as Indian red sugar.
The raid, conducted in Embilipitiya, revealed that the businessman behind this operation had been running the scheme for an extended period.
Authorities discovered 2,500 empty 50 kg sugar packs at the site, indicating the scale of the operation.
The mixed sugar was being sold at a price of 300 rupees per kilogram, misleading consumers about its origin and quality.
