The Bureau of FIFA Council has decided to lift the suspension imposed on the Football Federation of Sri Lanka, with immediate effect.

Accordingly, FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation will continue to monitor the Sri Lanka Football Federation election, which is scheduled to be held on the 29th of September.

In January, the Bureau of the FIFA Council decided to suspend the Football Federation of Sri Lanka due to government interference.

FIFA suspended the Football Federation of Sri Lanka with effect from 21st of January.FIFA in December 2022 issued a red notice on local football authorities, raising concerns over the electoral roadmap of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka.

The FIFA Secretary announced that the Football Federation of Sri Lanka is suspended in accordance with article 16 of the FIFA Statutes.
