TAX OF 5% ON IMPORTED PACKAGES USED FOR PACKAGING MILK,FORCES INCREASE IN PRICE OF LIQUID MILK

Liquid milk prices increased?

It is reported that with the decision taken by the government to impose a 5 percent tax on imported packages used for packaging milk, it has been proposed to increase the price of liquid milk.

Sources from the National Livestock Board said that the imposition of a tax on local liquid milk in a background where milk powder is not imported is creating confusion and a request has been made to the government to waive this tax on milk packaging.Packages used by local milk companies were also stranded at the Port of Colombo due to the dollar crisis and about $ 30,000 worth of packages were released from the port recently.

However, the National Livestock Board says that despite the proposals, the government has not yet decided to increase the price of liquid milk.
