TECHNOLOGY OF GPS SOUGHT TO TRACK DOWN PRIVATE BUSES WHICH DO NOT PLY AFTER PROVIDING FUEL

GPS to monitor if busses operate with fuel provided to them..?

It has been discussed to use GPS technology to check if the buses that that are provided fuel are operating.Officials from the Ministries of Transport and Highways recently appeared before the COPA Committee and discussed this matter.

There were allegations that the fuel issued by the Ceylon Transport Board’s depots for private buses was not being used to operate these busses.
Here the officials pointed out that some private buses obtain the diesel from these filling stations and sell it at a higher price.

These officials pointed out that these busses make a greater profit by selling the fuel than operating the bus services.Accordingly, the committee pointed out that this situation should be controlled and to prevent the public from being inconvenienced, a system should be developed to check whether the buses that pump fuel from the depot filling stations are running.
