SLC to provide Rs. 10 mn. prize to Tharushi
Sri Lanka Cricket is to provide a Rs. 10 million monetary prize to Tharushi Karunaratne, who won a Gold medal in the Women’s 800m event at the Asian Games yesterday (04).
Chairman of the SLC – Shammi Silva said that the SLC is of the view that Tharushi’s achievement should be appreciated as it is the first gold medal won by Sri Lanka in athletics at an Asian Games since 2002.

The schedule for the Budget debate and the Committee stages has been finalized.
The budget would be presented on Monday, November 13 while the second reading debate would commence from Tuesday, November 14. The second reading Division will be on November 21, 2023.
Nineteen days have been allocated for the Committee stage debates which will commence from November 22 to December 12. The third reading of the budget would take place on December 13 and the vote at 6.00 pm on the same day.

A large landslip had taken place in the Diyalape area in Akuressa, reports say.
At the first signs of a possible disaster, CI of the Akuressa police and the Divisional Secretary had taken measures to evacuate around 70 people of 21 families from the area. They are currently being sheltered at the Diyalpe school and school.
Another 10 families who face further possible danger, have also been evacuated.
Due to the vigilant and timely action of authorities, no lives were lost but police suspect much property have sustained damages.

A traffic Police Constable on duty, had been hospitalised with grievous injuries after being knocked down by a SUV in Colombo today evening (05).
The vehicle had subsequently come to a stop after crashing into the fountain located at the centre of the Independence Square Roundabout.
The driver, who is said to be a son of a high-ranking police officer, has been arrested.
The injured policeman, who is attached to the Cinnamon Gardens Police Station, is a resident of the Walasmulla area. He has been rushed to the Colombo National Hospital in critical condition, reports say.
A special team from the Narahenpita Police has been tasked with investigating the accident, under the directives of the OIC of the Cinnamon Gardens Police.
