A Palmyrah Industry Entrepreneur guidebook titled ‘Unravelling the magic of Palmyrah’ was presented to President Ranil Wickramasinghe by Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board – Dr. Krishantha Pathiraja and its General Manager – Mr. S. Srivijendran.

The book was launched at a separate event in Colombo last week.

President’s Secretary – Mr. Saman Ekanayaka, Minister Transport and Media – Bandula Gunawardana, Director General Presidential Secretariat – Mr. Saman Rathnapriya, Governor of the Northern Province – Ms. P.S.M. Charles, Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board – Dr. Krishantha Pathiraja and General Manager of the Palmyrah Development Board – Mr. S. Srivijendran attended the launch event.

According to the Palmyrah Development Board, the book is predominantly a guide for the entrepreneurs who are interested in manufacturing Palmyrah based products. Elaborating on the many health and economic benefits of the Asian Palmyrah tree, the book contains snapshots of Palmyrah based research conducted at Palmyrah Research Institute (PRI) focusing on  maximizing the utilization of the tree.

It also includes necessary information needed to upgrade the quality of traditional Palmyrah products and talks about the value-added, newly developed Palmyrah products produced at PRI via Research and Development.

The Palmyrah Development Board assures that this book will be of paramount importance in transitioning the Palmyrah industry to be a significant contributor to the GDP of the country.
