Health Sector trade unions have decided to launch an islandwide strike tomorrow (Feb 01).

Accordingly, 72 trade unions are expected to participate in the strike commencing at 06.30 am.

The strike has been organized to demand the Disturbance, Availability and Transport (DAT) allowance which is given to doctors only.

Earlier this month, the Cabinet approved the President’s proposal to double the DAT allowance for doctors, raising it from Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 70,000. The allowance was to be included in the January salary of doctors.
