Petition calls to scrap permanent barriers in Colombo
A Fundamental Rights petition has been filed, calling for a court order to remove all permanent barriers in Colombo city.
Environmentalist – Hemantha Vithanage and a resident in Gampaha – Shenal Jayasekera has filed the petition, which calls for the IGP, Fort police OIC, Kollupitiya police OIC, the RDA, Human Rights Commission and the Attorney General as respondents.
The petition points out that the permanent barriers erected in the Colombo Fort area and near Temple Trees, have violated the basic human right to freedom of movement.
