Tourist arrivals continue to grow
Sri Lanka has recorded a total of 806,181 tourist arrivals from 01 January to 15 April, 2024, according to the latest data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
The first half of April alone saw 73,915 international visitors, highlighting continued growth in the country’s tourism sector. India, the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, and Australia emerged as the top five source markets during this period.
Between 1 and 15 April, the highest number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka came from India, with 18,220 visitors, followed by the United Kingdom with 11,425, and Russia with 8,705. Germany contributed 7,746 arrivals, while Australia accounted for 6,604. Other notable source markets included France 4,658 visitors, China 3,492, Bangladesh 3,251, the United States 2,150, and Switzerland 1,823.
An additional 25,841 tourists arrived from various other countries during the same period, the SLTDA said.The strong arrival figures reflect a positive trend in Sri Lanka’s tourism recovery, with authorities optimistic about meeting their annual targets as the country continues to position itself as a key travel destination in the region.
