The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has informed its officials to enforce strict rules against shop owners selling rice at higher prices.
Rice should be sold at the maximum retail price of 260 rupees per kilo of Keeri Samba, 230 rupees per kilo of Samba, 220 rupees per kilo of Nadu and 210 rupees per kilo of Red Kekulu.
In case of prosecution related to sale of rice at higher prices by ignoring the gazette which fixed the maximum retail price for rice, a fine of minimum Rs.100,000 to maximum Rs.500,000 can be imposed on an individual business, and a fine of Rs.500,000 to Rs.5 million on a private company.
The consumers are requested to contact the CAA hotline 1977 about traders selling rice at higher prices.
