Teachers to withdraw from paper-marking if the arrears not paid

The Ceylon Teachers’ Union said that they will withdraw from Advanced Level examination paper marking if the arrears amounting to Rs. 15 million are not paid for marking the answer sheets of the previous A/L and O/L examinations before the 21st of this month.

The Examination Department has now called for applications for the evaluation of the answer sheets of the A/L examination to be held next January and the last date for submission of applications is the 21st of this month.

Ceylon Teachers Union General Secretary Joseph Stalin said that due to the fuel crisis, principals and teachers made great sacrifices for the evaluation of answer sheets in the past exams and they reported for those duties at their own expense.

If the outstanding allowances are not paid, he said that making preparations for the upcoming exam is uncertain.

An Examination Department spokesperson said that the money needed to pay these arrears has not been received from the Treasury
