Wanindu and Dushmantha doubtful starters for the World Cup
Leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga and paceman Dushmantha Chameera are unlikely to be included in the world cup cricket squad due to their injuries while Dushan Hemantha and Lahiru Kumara may be included in the squad and this is the latest development of world cup team selections.
According to a senior official of SLC selectors have not finalized the final 15 member squad and ICC already announced cut off date of the team September28 while Sri Lanka team is expected to leave on September 27.
There are no big changes in this squad from the provisional 15 member squad . Wanindu Hasaranga who was second time injured during training has to recover and expected to undergo an MRI scan yesterday and there is a slight chance to add his name for the squad but most likely he has to undergo surgery.which means he would not go for this world cup said a senior medical officer. In addition Dushmantha Chameera has not fully recovered and most probably paceman Lahiru Kumara will get a chance to enter the squad.
The mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana and paceman Dilshan Madushanka already got green light to be selected for the squad while selectors already have some idea to add two stand bye players Dushan Hemantha the right arm leg spinner and bowling all rounder Chamika Karunaratne for this India tour as skipper Dasun Shanaka is going through a bad patch recently.
In case of Shanaka’s failure there is slight possibility to add another bowling all rounder and they have an idea to pick best team for the world cup.
Asia Cup final result the talking point
Meanwhile the teams poor performance of the Asia Cup final is being criticized and the decision of the toss and inaction of the supporting staff has been pointed out. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also said they couldn’t recognize the wicket before the toss and Hardik Pandya was surprised about Sri Lankas decision to bat first.
The cricket expert said Sri Lanka supporting staff has big responsibility to read the wicket but it has not been done before the final. However they couldn’t recognize the R. Premadasa Stadium wicket. They knew their batting and bowling strength while Sri Lanka had a failure about their batting why they decided to bat first and the way they batted first ten overs was irresponsible he said.
We know Sri Lanka have to play nine matches at different venues and supporting staff has big role to recognize wickets and give correct instructions and skipper has to handle the team well to go forward said the cricket expert. If we lose the game selectors are blamed but it is unfair while supporting staff and players should take more responsibility for the WorldCup.
