In a bid to rekindle the flame of aggressive and electrifying cricket, several key players have raised their voices against lackluster pitch conditions in the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL). The call for dynamic pitches that accommodate the explosive nature of T20 cricket has gained momentum, as players and fans alike yearn for an enthralling sporting spectacle.
Sanath Jayasuriya, a legendary figure in Sri Lankan cricket, expressed disappointment over the subpar wickets at the Premadasa Stadium. “We crave pitches that fuel positive, aggressive play and electrify the fans,” remarked the Dambulla Aura, Head of Cricket who lead the group stage of LPL season 4.
His sentiments were echoed by Wanindu Hasaranga, star all-rounder and B-Love Kandy Captain, who took a bold stance in advocating for better pitch conditions in Colombo.
Hasaranga’s concerns were targeted at the slow-paced pitches allocated for LPL games in Colombo. He emphasized the necessity of surfaces that complement the fast-paced and dynamic nature of T20 cricket. Kusal Mendis, captain of Dambulla Aura, had previously voiced similar concerns, underlining the importance of striking a balance between bat and ball to ensure a compelling contest.
