A person accused of abusing 11 girls at a children’s home in Rakwana, Ratnapura was arrested and remanded till 8th March, the Police said.
Ratnapura Children and Women Bureau had received complaints that 11 girls had been abused in a children’s home in Rakwana area. Accordingly, the 60-year-old husband of the warden of the children’s home was arrested and produced to the Pelmadulla Magistrate’s Court.
Initial investigations revealed that a girl who was staying at the children’s home had been staying at the warden’s house since she turned 18 years old. The police stated that she has been severely abused and has been admitted to the Kahawatta Hospital.
The police say that the warden of this children’s home, which was run by a non-governmental organization, has also been removed after this incident. (
