WHEAT FLOUR PRICES WILL REMAIN STATIC-MINISTER

No need up wheat flour prices – minister

Minister of Trade and Food Security Nalin Fernando has said that prices of wheat flour need not be increased, adding that a control price therefore is not required either.

He has said this during a discussion held today (05) with the All Island Bakery Owners Association at the Trade Ministry.

The Minister during the discussion informed that during talks held last Friday with two leading wheat flour companies, the two companies had stated that sufficient stocks are available to produce wheat flour for a month, while wheat flour stocks imported from Turkey and Dubai are expected to be delivered by September 15.

Therefore, there will be no shortage of wheat flour in the market in the future and therefore a price increase as well as a control price is not required, he pointed out.The Minister has also told the ministry officials that they will provide a written report on the requirement of wheat flour for local consumption for the next six months.
